THE MENTORSHIP BLEND is a roasting collaboration between Iluminar Coffee, Scout, and Uncommon Coffee. We were inspired by the Young Producer Program. The pilot of this program was a collaboration between Felipe and Andres Cardona, the two producers of the coffees that comprise this blend. Andres took an interest in producing specialty coffee, so he took on a mentee role with Felipe. This new growing season is Andres’ first season as a mentor, which means that the two coffees in this blend are from the last season that Andres and Felipe worked together as mentor and mentee. Why the Young Producer Program matters: There isn’t a huge “younger generation” of coffee farmers. In fact, the average age of coffee farmers worldwide is about 55 years old. The program aims to make coffee farming a viable and exciting career path.
